Rum Jungle

My Rum Jungle paintings are inspired by vines and the qualities of light and color that play across the surface textures of time-worn walls observed during my sabbatical in Bermuda and Southeast Asia. The subjects are expressions of physicality, while at the same time revealing a less tangible range of emotional associations. I use light and atmosphere to dissolve shapes and merge values: creating a dialogue between tangible object and atmospheric dissolution of form. Exposed (or excavated) pentimenti reveal the painting process through transparent layers of color and leave shards of information to encourage the viewer to explore beneath the surface.
